About

I am currently a Junior at Savannah College of Art and Design, with a major in Fibers and a minor in Fashion Marketing and Management. I am every bit like my name, Mattison. A somewhat common name when you hear it, but very different in its spelling. A name with no apparent meaning, which makes it so appropriate. I’m able to create my own identity and meaning, like a blank canvas before me.

This concept can be translated in my artwork, in that I push the boundaries of a basic skill or material and make it my own. My work plays with a balance between intricacy and boldness. Simplicity and complexity seem like polar opposites, but when combined, the outcome is explosive. Its what drives me and my desire to share it with other people with what I know and love.

Art is like an escape from the chaotic world around me. It gives me feelings of fulfillment and makes me look forward to my future. Painting with oils, drawing, as well as experimenting with fibers and textiles is what fills my soul.
